Bamboo’s Green Edge
Bringing the breezy exoticism of the South Seas home, bamboo is one of today’s most innovative and versatile natural flooring materials. Although technically a grass, bamboo has all the qualities of a fine wood and is, in fact, harder and more stable than maple and oak. During the manufacturing process, bamboo stems are split, flattened, laminated and laid side-by-side, retaining their distinctive jointed pattern. Naturally golden blond in color, bamboo can also be carbonized, a process that impregnates the entire stalk with a rich, dark color.

Different Styles of Wood Flooring
Parquet Floors
Flooring made up of wood that is laid or inlaid to create patterns, most often geometric.
Pickled Floors
The result of rubbing white paint into previously stained and finished wood flooring for an informal or more casual look.
Plank Flooring
Wood flooring made of long boards more than 3 inches wide.
Strip Flooring
The most popular wood flooring, strip flooring is made of narrow boards, less than 3 inches wide, that are end-matched. Strip flooring wider than 3 inches is called plank flooring.

Wood floors are available in solid one-piece boards which is the traditional form of old. These are available with a factory finish or their natural finish ready for staining and finishing.
However, there is a second form available as "engineered wood" which is a composite consisting of a hardwood veneer top-layer laminated to lower layers of softwood backing that inhibit warping. Engineered wood can be refinished and restained, giving it enduring value in the home.
